Chef Nigel Slater was born in Wolverhampton and raised in Herefordshire. This film tells the story of Nigel's early life. Filmed entirely in the West Midlands, his mother’s only culinary success was toast and her early demise paved the way for the cleaner, Mrs Potter (Helena Bonham- Carter) to move in and try to fill her space. His Father (Ken Stott) moves the family to Herefordshire where Nigel and his step-mother have a culinary war.
