Perton Parish Council recently conducted a brief consultation with parents and children concerning the design of the new playground, it was a very popular consultation with a total of 1160 votes cast.

You will see above that Option B was the preferred design. However we have discovered that quite a large number of children voted for Option A and we understand that this was generally because they particularly liked the play item called ‘The Core’. This item also features in Option B but whereas on Option A it was shown in foreground on Option B it was in background so hopefully there will not be any disappointment.

Many parents and children were also involved in the national Goodyear playground appeal which we eventually won in a very close contest. Again I am delighted to say that the £10000.00 contribution from Goodyear has now been received and this will cover approximately 12.5% of the playground costs.

Finally one more piece of good news! The Parish Council has considered comments received during the consultation in respect to one or two items on the ‘wish list’ and accordingly are ploughing more money in to the project so we will actually deliver ‘Option B Plus’ which is Option B as per the vote winner with some additional play equipment. The final drawing can be viewed at the Civic Centre if required.

Perton Bus Shelter Refurbishment Programme

It is a well known fact that Environmental Crime makes people feel unsafe; graffiti, vandalism, fly posters and litter all contribute to the perception of an unsafe neighbourhood.

Unfortunately, as is often the case, these forms of anti-social behaviour are the acts of the few that impact the many. Whilst the root of these problems is probably a lack of education, discipline and consideration starting within the perpetrators own home the results leave us all feeling somewhat jaded and picking up the bill to repair the damage.

To help alleviate the problem Perton Parish Council have initiated a programme of Bus Shelter refurbishment in conjunction with local company MGD Solutions. MGD are specialists in the field of environmentally friendly solutions to eradicate graffiti, chewing gum and fly posters. On behalf of Perton Parish Council MGD have implemented a quality refurbishment programme at the three worse shelters and have engaged with the local people and schools to increase community surveillance of the shelters. Specialist paint and protective coatings have been used together with a fairly general replacement of the Polycarbonate windows and retaining beadings.

The photo below shows the Bus Shelter on The Parkway at Leasowes Drive prior to the refurbishment.

Following the transformation by MGD the same shelter now has a new lease of life as shown below.

Obviously the time, effort and cost for this refurbishment is only worthwhile if these shelters can be kept in good clean condition. We hope that those with a propensity to carry out these attacks of graffiti and vandalism will reconsider their actions before repeating their destructive behaviour. Meanwhile to keep on top of the task of ongoing support MGD will be utilising revenue generated by offering local businesses the opportunity to advertise on the shelters – thus the local community is empowered to take ownership of an ongoing solution.

If your business is interested in advertising in one of our shelters please contact:
